About Shop Sol
Shop Sol is a carefully curated collection of clothing, jewelry and home décor. Many of our pieces are one of a kind, upcycled or handmade. Sandhyaa, the owner of Shop Sol, personally visits countries such as India, Thailand and Peru, building relationships with other small business owners. We value authenticity and ethicality, we strive for our pieces and our service to reflect those values.
About the Owner
My father migrated to Canada from Guyana in 1980 and my mother in 1996, a few months before I was born. They settled in Kensington Market, a cornerstone of multiculturalism in Toronto. Both my parents grew up very poor in Guyana and were determined to make a better life for their children. My father started his business in 1989 selling used and vintage clothing. My mother started her business in 2000 selling vintage clothing. She operated for 10 successful years before closing her store and joining my father. Today they are one of the oldest stores in Kensington Market, they have been open for over 30 years.
In the 2000's my parents switched from selling used and vintage to new imports. They would travel for months at a time sourcing inventory. When I was 16 I started joining them on their business trips. I pride myself in being the child of two hard working immigrants. I am grateful for growing up in such a diverse neighbourhood and having the opportunity to travel around the world. My experiences have exposed me to many different cultures and ways of life. Having adopted my parents sense of entrepreneurship and seeing so many beautiful pieces during my travels, it had inspired me to start a boutique of my own. Sol is a collection of items that I love and I am so excited to be able to share them with you.
